On our trip to Lisbon, we were pleasantly surprised by the endless number of trendy restaurants and bars across the city. In total, my husband and I spent 7 days in Portugal, first stopping in Lisbon and then heading south to the Algarve. During our 4 days in the city, we tried as many restaurants as we possibly could, and we loved every bit of the next 10 spots.
Lisbon is a MAJOR foodie city. We truly felt like we could have spent months in there and still continued to discover new places. If you’re planning a trip to Portugal, don’t sleep on Lisbon. The city has so much to offer, and we’re already dreaming of our next trip back.
Take a look at our 10 favorite spots in Lisbon to eat & drink! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Kicking it off with my favorite place to get drinks in Lisbon. While this isn’t exactly a full service bar, this scenic overlook checks all the boxes for me. Grab a beer or Aperol Spritz, watch the sunset and an incredible view of the city. Before you do, take a stroll around Alfama, the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon, or take the famous 28 tram car from Bairro Alto. On both trips I’ve taken to Lisbon, Miradouro Portas do Sol has been my first and last stop.
Sophia
It might seem strange to recommend an Italian restaurant in Portugal, but Sophia is not to be missed. The food is phenomenal and the aesthetic of the restaurant is on point. My husband ordered pasta with a king prawn, and this is still one of his favorite things he’s ever eaten. We didn’t have a reservation, but I think we got lucky with an open table!
Flat Cafe
Kick off your morning with a stop at Flat Cafe in Chiado. This hole in the wall spot had great coffee and fresh breakfast. We stayed in an Airbnb right around the corner and visited the spot several times. The location is perfect if you’re planning to catch a train out of Cais de Sodre for a day trip to Cascais.
Dear Breakfast
If you’re looking for more of a sit down breakfast, I highly recommend Dear Breakfast. This spot is instagram content heaven. From the coffee bar, to the decor and the perfect assortment of pastries, yogurt and fruit, everything is beautiful. Not to mention incredibly fresh. I had the brunch, which included a croissant, granola, tea or coffee, bloody mary or sparkling wine, and a choice of omelet or pancakes. We visited the Bica location, but there are 2 other locations in Chiado and Alfama, depending on your plans for the day. I seriously recommend getting a reservation for this one! We waited for over an hour for a table for 2.
Pateo
Located inside Do Avillez, Pateo is truly a unique experience. With 4 restaurants located under one roof, the energy here is unbeatable. We were able to snag at table at Pateo after hanging out at the bar for a few minutes. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get a table at Mini Bar, the speakeasy inside the restaurant, but it’s on the top of our list for next time.
Ginjinha Sem Rival
Looking for somewhere to experience a bit of Lisboan culture, head over to Ginjinha Sem Rival. Here you can try the famous cherry liquer, Ginja. You’ll find this place packed with tourists and locals sampling the sweet drink. Pick up an airplane bottle (or a few) to bring home to your friends! Pro tip, if you look closely enough in Alfama, you can also find locals selling their own homemade Ginja out their back doors.
COMOBA
Lisbon has an endless number of cute coffee shops, and COMOBA was one of our favorites. Grab a latte and a breakfast burrito to kick start your day. Snap a few photos while you’re at it, you won’t be disappointed. Take a stroll down Rua da Boavista, we found several cute shops!
LX Factory
After breakfast, take a Tuktuk over to LX Factory, which features 18 different restaurants and bars. You’ll also find amazing art and shops, featuring local creators. We tried 1300 Taberna and had an incredible Portuguese lunch. This place is perfect for an afternoon or evening in Lisbon.
Pharmacia Felicidade
For another super unique experience, check out Pharmacia. They take a classic twist on Portguese cuisine and the setting is inspired by old pharmacies. The drinks are even named after different prescription medications!
O Boteco
Last but not least was O Boteco, a Brazilian restaurant in Chiado. We spent a lot of time near our Airbnb, and this place was truly one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. Try a Caipirinha, which is Brazil’s national drink, made with cachaca (sugarcane hard liquor, sugar and lime. If you’re in the mood for a steak, O Boteco is the place to go.
